Analogue signals are no longer being broadcast by many cable companies, so if you like to view your favorite programs, you will need to purchase an HDTV.

1. Have a look at all of the different brands of HDTVs. Most of the offerings are similar; however, there are difference between various companies. Most people want to get the most features included that they can in their purchase. Does the TV you are considering have a universal remote? This is a really great feature that can reduce the amount of remotes you need to keep track of in your room. Another idea - if you will have the TV in your bedroom, you will likely want one that has a sleep timer option.
2. Decide on the size. If you have a pretty big room, you are most likely looking for a fairly large TV. Don't forget to take into account the distance that you should be seated from the TV, depending upon its size. There are manufacturer's recommendations on this, and it can vary between brands. You don't want to be seated three feet from a 52 inch television, for example.
3. Do you want a plasma or an LCD? If you do not know the differences between these, simply put a plasma TV generally comes in much larger screen choices than the LCD; however LCD TVs are getting bigger all the time.
4. Price. This is obviously a factor for most people; it will vary depending on the size and features that are included with the particular TV you are considering.
5. Placement. If you purchase a mid sized TV, you may want to mount it to the wall or on the ceiling, depending on which room your TV is located in. If you are considering having the TV mounted, a flat panel TV is likely your best choice.

When you are shopping for your new HDTV, review all of the above tips and make a list of what you need in your TV. This will help you to make a decision. If you do not have a list of requirements, you may be dazzled by the sheer number of choices available.
