5.1-surround sound has five speakers and a subwoofer. You want one placed directly opposite of your entertainment center. You divide the other equally around the room, as you want. Find the studs in the wall near the ceiling were you would mount the speakers. You can use a stud finder for that purpose. Move it around until you get an indication that you are on top of a stud. Screw the speakers securely in the wall at that point. You can run the wires later. Test your speaker layout with your system and determine if you need to make any changes. This way you will be satisfied when you are ready to finish the system installation.
